DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge, April 2018

Today, I have a layout for April's Stack-a-holic Challenge at DCWV. This is my favorite picture of Mom and I. It was taken at the Amarillo airport. The horse in the background is one of the famous painted horses you can find around Amarillo. The journaling reads:

Mom always said, "We have two choices when difficult things come our way. We can choose to be miserable, or we can choose to be happy. I choose happy!"
Mom now sits at the Master's feet. I miss her.

I used DCWV's Botanical Beauty stack to create my layout. The stack is all double-sided cardstock with gold foil on many of the sheets.

To create my title and journaling tags, I printed them from my computer onto vellum.

DESIGNER TIP:
When printing on vellum, you must be careful not to let the ink smear before it dries. Mine dried in about ten seconds. I planned to only use vellum for the title, but I thought I needed a bit more color to this layout so I ran the vellum through my Xyron Sticker Maker and adhered it to a piece of the cardstock.

The deadline is now passed for entering a project this month, but you can still vote. I would appreciate it if you would vote for my layout, or any of the other entries you might like better. You can find the details on the DCWV, Inc. page on Facebook.

Thanks so much for stopping in. Check back with DCWV at the first of the month for May's Stack-a-holic Challenge.

Materials used:

cardstock- Botanical Beauty (DCWV)
                  solid gold (Spellbinders)
dies- Fancy Foliage (ODBD)
        filigree (Spellbinders)

DCWV Stack-a-holic- March 2018

UPDATE: Super excited and very honored to learn that this card was a winner in its challenge. Thanks so much DCWV!

Thanks so much for stopping in! Always so nice to have you here. Today, I have  card for the Stack-a-holic Challenge at DCWV. I used the Beach House stack to create my masculine birthday card.
The deadline for entry is coming up this weekend, so be quick if you want to join in the fun. You can find all the details on DCWV's Facebook page.

DESIGNER TIP: When using such an intricate die, try using wax paper between the die and the front of your cardstock. I find my dies, like the one I used here, come out much easier and with no tearing.

Paper Dress Card - DCWV Stack-a-holic, Jan 2017

Update:  Excited to find my card among the winning cards! Thanks so much to DCWV!

Ever wonder what happens if you cut an angel in half?!?

It feels so so good to be back to my card making! I spent a lot of time browsing Pinterest and other web sites while my broken leg was healing these past five months. I saw a lot of paper dresses and wanted to try making one. I think the sketch from DCWV's challenge this month is the perfect forum for me to create my own paper dress.
I used DCWV's The Painted Petals Stack, pre-embossed A2 cards and the clear Adhesive Jeweled Sheet to create my card. I began by die cutting two angels. Then, I cut the dark top-half off. I used the chad from the lighter purple to create an inlaid skirt. I used a heart for the bodice and diamonds for the waistband. Then, in a nod to my grannie who always made sure I had a nice and noisy cancan when I was growing up, I used a yellow flower die to create a cancan of sorts for my dress.
There is still plenty of time to join in on the fun this month. Here's a link to the rules and a copy of the sketch we had to work with.
And, so far, nothing bad has happened from my cutting an angel in half, so grab your scissors or paper trimmer and cut away.
     Other products used:

Spellbinders Holiday and So Sweet dies
     Stampabilities Wire Dress Form stamp
     Fiskars That's Amore medium punch
Our Daily Bread Designs Asters & Leaves die

Thanks so much for stopping in. May the Lord be glorified by the work of my hands,
Pamela

DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge, June 2016

Update: Excited to hear that my card is among this month's winners!

Today, I have a card for the Stack-a-holic Challenge at DCWV. I used the Homespun Cardstock Stack to create my card this month. I've been hoarding the last few sheets from this collection. It is one of my all-time favorites!!! The cardstock comes pre-scored as you see here.
I used a combination of dies and punches to create my circles. The sentiment stamp is from Our Daily Bread Designs Friendship (B52) collection.
There are still a few days left before the deadline. Come join in the fun! Here's a link to all the rules and a copy of this month's sketch.

DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge - Feb, 2016

Today, I have a card for the Stack-a-holic challenge over at DCWV. I used the Happy Day Stack to create my card. I love the soft colors with the grey in this collection. Grey is a trend I'm seeing everywhere these days. That, and little bits of gold here and there on projects like I have on this card.
My sentiment is from the Card Crafting Hello collection (2011139) from the Paper Studio. This is one of my very favorite stamps.  I used the Picot Edge Circles (S4-345) dies from Spellbinders to add some dimension to my medallion. I attached the medallion with foam tape. It made so much difference to pop it up rather than adhering it flat against the card.
You still have oodles of time if you want to create something for this challenge. Here's a link to the rules and a copy of the sketch we have to work with this month.
Thanks so much for stopping in. Hope you have a wonderful day. May the Lord be glorified by the work of my hands, Pamela

Happy Anniversary to my DH - DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge, Dec 2015

UPDATE: So excited to find out this card was among the winners! Thanks so much, DCWV,  for selecting my card to feature.

Today, I have a card for the Stack-a-holic Challenge at DCWV using the Ocean Breeze Stack. I made this card for my husband.
In just a few days, Jeff and I will celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary! Our time together has been mostly good. But, there are those times he deserves for me to be mad at him! LOL!
He is such a good man and my best friend. He really is my anchor. He can calm me when no one else can. He helps me make sense of things in life that would crush my soul if he were not at my side.
We've had more fun and adventure than most couples. After all these years, we still have 'date night'. Sometimes we have great philosophical discussions that can go on for hours. And, sometimes we are just quiet together. I love those times. And on occasion, at 3:00 a.m., he will take me out to get a milkshake just because I would like to have one.
He is my biggest supporter when it comes to my writing and cardmaking. I would rather be with him than anyone else on the earth.
There are also those times when we have hurt each other deeply. But, we always manage to find our way to forgiveness. I try every morning to ask myself what can I do today to make his day better.
And, my very favorite thing about Jeff? He never minds when I spend money on my cardmaking projects. Who could ask for  anything more!?!
There is still plenty of time left if you want to join in the challenge to make your own card. Here's a link to the rules and a copy of the sketch we had to work with.

DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge, Nov 2015

UPDATESo excited to see my card among the winners!  Check out all the winners here:  http://www.dcwv.com/blog/post/november-stack-a-holic-challenge-the-results

Thanks so much for stopping in. Hope your day is as sunny as mine. Today, I have a card for the Stack-a-holic Challenge over at DCWV.
I used the Ocean Breeze Stack from DCWV to create my card this month. I'm always on the lookout for good "man-paper". This stack has lots of them! Although, as you can see, I made a feminine card. Go figure. I just loved this sentiment card that comes in the stack and wanted to use it on my card.
There is still plenty of time if you want to join in the fun. Here's the link to the rules and a copy of this month's sketch.

DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Challenge, Oct 2015

UPDATE: So excited to have my card among the list of winners! Thanks so much DCWV!

Thanks so much for stopping in today. Hope your day is off to a good start. Mine is sunny and bright after 10.2" rain in two days. So thankful for the rain.
Today, I have a card for the DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge. I used the Happy Day Stack for my card. It's a new stack and I love every sheet of it.
Was not sure I would be able to play this month. I spent the last several weeks with Mom who is in a nursing home. She is really struggling, so to those friends of mine who pray, will you lift her up to the Lord today? I can feel your prayers already. Love you all so much. I digress . . .
There are still a couple of days to join in on all the fun. Here's the link to the rules and a copy of the sketch we had to work with.
May the Lord be glorified by the work of my hands,
Pamela

DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Challenge, Sept 2015

UPDATE: So excited to find my card on the list of winners! Thanks so much DCWV!
Time for another DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Sketch Challenge already! The time if flying by here.
I used the The Good Wood Stack to create this Thanksgiving card. There are just so many beautiful wood grains in that stack. I used Fiskars' Quilt Star to punch my embellishments. I cut two of each different one and then stacked them with foam tape.
There is still lots of time if you want to play along with us. Here's the link to all the rules and a copy of the sketch here too.

Thanks so much for stopping in. I'll be looking forward to seeing your card on the DCWV Facebook page.
May the Lord be glorified by the work of my hands,
Pamela

DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Sketch Challenge for July 2015

Thanks so much for stopping in. Today, I have a card for the Stack-a-holic challenge at DCWV.
I used the Flowers DIY Project Stack from DCWV to make my pocket card in which I placed a bookmark (below) for my DH. He always has several books going at the same time.
LYM stands for Love You Millions. I end every email and other kinds of notes to him with LYM. I cut the tile letters from the Good Wood Stack also from DCWV.
There is still time left if you want to play along with us. Here's the card sketch for July and the link to all the rules.
May the Lord be glorified by the work of my hands,
 Pamela

DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Sketch Challenge

A post with a card two days in a row! Woohooo! I had  a free day and am spending the entire day in my studio. The day is almost over, but it's been a really fun day of creating.
I do so enjoy when you stop by to see what I have made.
Today's card is for the May Stack-a-holic Challenge at DCWV. I used the CHICK CHAT Stack for my card. Even the burlap was included in the stack! I must say I have never liked working with burlap. It unravels and frays terribly. But, just wait until you use this burlap!!! It has a paper backing so it does not fray and it's super easy to adhere to things. So, so happy about that. Thanks a million DCWV people!
The roses and sentiment tag were also in the stack - well, everything was in the stack. I did a little fussy-cutting here and there and voila - a beautiful, easy card! Oh, I did add my own navy blue matting. I think matting panels really makes them pop.
Here's the sketch DCWV gave us to work with along with the link to get all the rules. You still have oodles of time to join us. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you create!

DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Challenge, April 2015

Update: Excited to share that my card made it onto the winners list. Thanks so much DCWV!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I'm taking a quick break from working on the manuscript for my next book in order to post this card for the latest challenge at DCWV.
I used The Good Wood Stack from Die Cuts With a View to create my birthday card.
Designer Tip: The wood patterns I chose to work with got lost on top of each other in my original design. So, I used some basic black cardstock to mat all my panels and geometric shapes to make them pop. It looks so much better.
Designer Tip: I struggled to get a good picture of my card. I took a lot of photos, but they all looked like a dreary black & white photo. I put colored paper underneath my card, and I finally got some good photos.
There is still plenty of time if you want to enter your own card in the challenge. Here's a copy of the sketch we had to work with and the address for all the rules.
May the Lord be glorified by the work of my hands,
 Pamela

DCWV Stack-a-holic Card Challenge February 2015

Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you have someone special to love.
I have two cards to share today. Both use the same sketch (below), but I need a feminine and a masculine card this year.
Both cards use cardstock from the CANDY CANE LANE stack from DCWV. I just love finding ways to use Christmas papers in other ways like here with my Valentine's cards.
As you can see in this feminine version I used the CLEAR ADHESIVE JEWELED SHEET also from DCWV. I love these sheets! So easy to cut and so elegant.
I made the flowers using Our Daily Bread Design's Aster dies and Fancy Foliage dies.

Now for the masculine version. The letters LYM stand for "love you millions" which my husband, Jeff, and I use to sign off on all our emails to each other. I used Fiskar's heart punch for the hearts on this card.
And, here they are side by side.
There is still plenty of time to create your own card and join in the fun over at DCWV. Here's the sketch we had to work with this month and a link for all the details to play along. http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2015/02/februarys-stack-holic-challenge.html

DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge, January 2015

Thanks so much for stopping in. It's hard to believe it is already time for me to post another card for DCWV!
I had lots of fun creating this card! I played around with the new inlaid die cuts technique for my glitter-tree. I used the tree that I first die cut from the foil tag as embellishment. I cut the tree in half and tucked it under the strip of diamonds. Pretty, no? Then, I inlaid the light teal glitter-tree in the tag. To make the tree show up better, I tucked a scrap of teal foil behind the openwork  of the tree. Using a third color might have made that unnecessary. But, I like it like this.
There is still plenty of time if you want to play along with us. Here's this month's sketch and the link to find all the details: http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2015/01/1st-stack-holic-challege-for-2015.html

Here's what I used for my card:

DCWV - Foiled Cardstock Stack 6x6
Noel Stack (Yes, it's Christmas paper. My rebellious side came
out to play. I just love her!)
Adhesive Jeweled Sheet - the sheet is very easy to trim
Spellbinders - Whimsical Tree die
Our Daily Bread Designs - Friendship stamps
Horizon Fabrics -  sheer elegance ribbon

May God be glorified in the work of my hands,
Pamela

DCWV December Stack-a-holic Card Challenge

Where does the time go!?! Already time for another monthly challenge at DCWV!
I do thank you for stopping in. I know how busy we all get just a few days out from Christmas. I'm planning to send this Christmas thank-you card to Mom. She loves red, so I know this card will be a hit with her!
I used the CANDY CANE LANE STACK from DCWV to make my card for this month's Stack-a-holic Challenge.
     Other products I used are:
          Fiskars:  All Year Cheer (sentiment)
Our Daily Bread Designs: Sparkling Snowflakes stamps
Our Daily Bread Designs: Snowflake dies
          McGill:  tag punch
          Ranger:  white pigment
          StampinUp:  white embossing powder
          Recollections:  white pearls
There is still time to join in the fun. Here's a copy of the sketch DCWV gave us to work with as well as the link to get all the details.  http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/12/december-stack-holic-challenge.html
Thanks again for popping in! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas,

DCWV November Stack-a-holic Card Challenge

Update: So excited to find out my card won the challenge at DCWV!
Time for another fun Stack-a-holic challenge at DCWV.
I used The Handy-Dandy Stack from DCWV to make my Christmas card. I know that lime-greenish and pinkish are not the go-to colors for Christmas, but I have a rebellious side when it comes to 'rules' about colors and design. So, pink and lime green it is!
In the stack, there are several sheets of random letters all over the page - different fonts, sizes, colors. I cut some of them out to make my Merry Christmas sentiment. There are enough letter styles that you could use the sheet for your favorite style.
I added a few snowflake stickers to finish it off. The big snowflake is a shaker-sticker.

There is still plenty of time left if you want to join in on the fun. Here's a copy of the sketch we had to work with and the address for all the details. http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/11/november-stack-holic-challenge-is-here.html
Thanks so much for stopping in today. As we come to the time of year to think more about the things we are thankful for, I add you, my followers and visitors, to my list. Have a wonderful day,
Pamela

DCWV October Stack-a-holic Card Challenge

Update:  So exited to find out my card made it to the winner's list at DCWV!
Thanks so much for popping in. I really love your visits. Today, I have a card for the DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge which I am getting in at the very last moment. Not like me, but I've been super busy this month.
I used DCWV's Heirloom Stack to make my card for this month's challenge. I bought this stack just for the sheet of paper you see under my card. I have still not been able to cut it! You now how that goes - right!?! It can't just be me.
I love using unexpected colors for my Christmas cards. Teal and taupe/tan/dark ivory. Let's go with taupe because it's fun to say teal and taupe!
If you have an idea for this challenge, you might still have time to get it in. The deadline is today! Here's a copy of the sketch we had to work with and the address for all the details.
Thanks again for stopping in. I wish you a fun and meaningful holiday season. http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/10/october-stack-holic-challenge.html

I also used La Petites stickers (the Paper Studio) and sentiment stamps from Hero Arts #CL469.

DCWV August Stack-a-holic Challenge

UPDATE: Thanks to DCWV for featuring my card on their blog!

So nice of you to stop by my blog today. Love your visits and comments. I had lots of fun making this card for the monthly challenge over at DCWV.
I used DCWV's Chickadee Mesange Pajaro Stack to make my card. Love the colors and designs in the stack. To make my pennants pop, I shadowed each one with a different color to create a 3D-look.
I usually make all my own embellishments, but I had these great stickers I won from Pink Paislee's Hey Kid collection. How could I not use them here? The sentiment is also a sticker from the Paper Studio.
There is still plenty of time if you want to join in all the fun. Below is a copy of the challenge sketch we had to work with, and here's the link to the rules at DCWV: http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/08/august-stack-holic-challenge.html

DCWV April Stack-a-holic Card Challenge

UPDATE: Just found out my card made the TOP-10! This really is my favorite challenge each month. I highly recommend joining in on all the fun. You can see the other TOP-10 here: http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/04/aprils-stackaholic-challenge-top-10s.html
Thanks so much for stopping in. Hope you are having a fun day.
Today, I have a card for the April Stack-a-holic challenge over at DCWV. I used The Coral Couture Stack to make my card. I just love the colors in it. It is one of my favorite stacks from them. I save every little scrap of it. And, a good thing too -- look at these tiny little flags. Scraps worked perfectly for this card.
I created the flower-embellishment by fussy-cutting three of them from one of the pages in the stack. I layered them using foam tape to give the flower dimension and colored the center with a yellow marker.
I love the sentiment too! I recently won a stamp collection (I Blank You A1S208) from Paper Smooches, and it has quickly become one of my favs.
There is still plenty of time to get your own card in if you want to join in the fun. Here is the sketch and address where you can get all the rules and other details: http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/04/aprils-stackaholic-challenge.html

DCWV April Stack-a-holic Scrapbook Challenge

So nice of you to stop in. Today, I have a scrapbook layout for you - for Glenda. Glenda, one of my most precious friends, recently broke free of her earthly body. It was such a peaceful passing, and she was looking forward to the next part of 'living'.
I know the text box is hard to read in this picture. Here is what it says:

Chicamiga, you go ahead of me now to the next part of living. May you rest there in peace -- well, maybe you won't rest. I can see you exploring and adventuring. My precious friend, your journey has just begun.

Chicamiga is a word we made up by combining chica and amiga and always called each other by that. I really miss her.
I'm sending this layout over to DCWV's April Stack-a-holic challenge. I used The Handy-Dandy Stack to create my page. I printed all the text on white cardstock using my computer. I almost always use stamps for sentiments/text, but in this case I wanted a certain look that fit with Glenda's personality.
There is still time if you want to submit a layout of your own. Here is the sketch we had to use and the address where you can get all the details.  http://dcwvinc.blogspot.com/2014/04/aprils-stackaholic-challenge.html
