Tuesday Trigger - Pattern Play

        Hope you are having a good day while you are out and about on the web. I have a card for you today that I made for the Tuesday Trigger Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. 

      I love the inspiration photo (below) Cath provided this time. It's gorgeous! I was really drawn to the embroidered circles. And, those colors - so very Moxie! I picked out a light purple that matches one of the circles and the center teal-y blue to go with it. To give my circles some demension like in the photo, I made fan-fold flowers. Before folding the bigger purple flower, I ran a teal-y marker down the strip giving the look of embroidery. Oh, I should have made a wavy line! Wouldn't that have been so very Moxie!?! Too late now- maybe next time. To give some balance to the card, I ran one score line down the left side of the front. Then, I ran several scores, each one longer the the previous, down the right side of the card.

     I slipped a heart punched with Fiskars That's Amore punch under each flower letting it just peak out to begin the stems. I made the leaves with the same heart punch by snipping each heart in half. I stamped my Hero Art sentiment (CL342 )with ColorBox chalk in wisteria on a tag. I ran the edges of the tag across ColorBox chalk in arctic deep. I did not intend to make a tag but instead to stamp directly on the card, but I messed it up. I was so mad at myself! I was not about to start over so I added a tag. Looks okay, but would have been better without the mess up. I don't know why I am telling you all this.

Bleach Painting

      Paper Crafts magazine just published one of my cards in their May/June 2012 issue. If you have never been on the Paper Crafts website or seen their magazine you are missing out. I get so much inspiration from them. Check them out here: www.papercraftsmag.com/ .

    

     I am so excited to share this card and my bleach painting technique with you!

     To begin with, I made a 5x7 card out of light gray cardstock. On a separate sheet of gray cardstock, I heat embossed the image of the birch trees. Heat embossing forms a kind of dam for the bleach-paint keeping the bleach from bleeding outside the lines.

     To paint the trees, I first mixed one part bleach to two parts water in a small bowl. I dipped a Q-tip in the bleach solution and painted the tree trunks with it. It may take a bit to see the complete transformation of the cardstock so be patient and don't overwet your image. You may want to paint a second coat if you want to go even lighter. Let the paint dry completely.

     Next, I trimmed the image and added black and burnt orange panels.

     The stamp for these trees belongs to a friend who is currently at her cabin in the remote areas of Alaska far away from phones (even cell phones) so I was not able to ask her who made this stamp. But, Northwoods Rubber Stamps has a stamp that would work even better with this technique. The stamp is Three Snowy Pines in Woods. Their website is www.northwoodsrubberstamps.com/

     Designer Tips

     This painting works great on a lot of different stamps. I find that it works great too to add highlights to heat embossed, stamped flowers.

     This technique does not work on coated papers. Regular, smooth cardstock works best.

Tuesday Trigger - Autumn Woods

   Time for another Tuesday Trigger in the Moxie Fab World! I really liked this challenge because I got to use some of the things I won recently from American Crafts' Amy Tangerine collection through Paper Crafts magazine. Here's this Tuesday's trigger.

Here is my take.

   Honestly, this trigger reminded me of a potholder. Yes, I know that's kind of weird, but I used to make these woven potholders when I was a little girl. I decided to use that weaving technique to make a panel for the front of my card.

   I picked papers that reminded me of Fall and cut them in 1/2" strips and wove them together. The leaves and the chipboard letters were in the package I won from American Crafts. I thought they added a nice touch and the colors were perfect for this challenge.

Garden Glory Tuesday Trigger

Time to submit another card for the Tuesday Trigger in the Moxie Fab World. The inspiration photo and link are below. You really should play along with me. I'm having so much fun!

 

What a great color combo in this week's inspiration photo! I loved the high contrast of the bright green and white so, of course, I had to have that represented in some way. And then as you are no doubt learning about me, I love, love, love making 3-D flowers. I used five different punches to create this flower. You could have a flat flower or you could punch several layers all with one punch. I try - I really do - to keep my designs simple but I can't help myself once I get going. I can't wait for you to see my next flower creation - Texas bluebonnets! They are not ready to show yet but they will be coming soon. Now, I have to get my stepdad's birthday card going or it will be late. Thanks for stopping in!!!
